We were joined by very special guests BBC Radio 5 Live Presenter and Women’s Running Magazine Ambassador Rachel Burden, who was training for her first marathon like many of our camp goers. GB Olympian Anthony Whiteman, and Commonwealth and European medalist Laura Wieghtman joined us for a session or two to show us how the pros stay at their best.
Our industry professionals included Louise Sutton, lecturer in Sport and Exercise nutrition at Leeds Beckett Uni and consultant to many professional athletes. Along with Kate Spilsbury, Physiologist for the EIS and British Athletics Endurance Team. And finally our resident Physio and his team Paul Hobrough from Physio & Therapy UK.
Over three days our 75 runners were able to learn about pacing, putting some variety into your training, when to listen to your body and recover, and some invaluable tips from Olympic athletes and coaches. We had some brilliant questions for our industry professionals.
Sessions included a mile pacing sessions to see if you really know what pace you’re running at – without your garmin! A team paarlauf session in the Kielder Forest, and graded long run on Sunday.
We’re pleased to hear that many of this years camp goers have already surpassed their goals following the training camp and we look forward to hearing about many more PBs!
